A little less to think about. A little more time together.

How many diapers does a baby need per day?

How many diapers does your little one use per day, week and month? Use our table for each delivery rhythm, so you never run out or overstock.

How many diapers your little one uses changes over the months. Young babies go through them quickly, older babies use fewer. With a few simple numbers, you’ll know how many to keep at home and which delivery rhythm fits.

How many diapers per day?

According to the NHS, young babies may need 10 to 12 changes a day, while older babies need around 6 to 8.

Treat this as a guide, not a rule. Every child is different, and a busy day or a leaky diaper counts too. The most reliable number is your own: keep track for a few days of how many diapers you use.

Counting wet diapers to check whether your baby is drinking enough? Follow the advice of your midwife, maternity nurse or child health clinic. The Dutch Voedingscentrum (Netherlands Nutrition Centre, in Dutch) explains what to look out for.

How to work out how many diapers you need

Use this simple sum:

diapers per day × days until the next delivery = diapers per delivery

For example: your little one uses 8 diapers a day and your box arrives every 3 weeks. That’s 8 × 21 = 168 diapers per delivery. Per week that’s 56, and for a 30-day month about 240. Add a few extra for days with more changes.

Then check how many diapers are in a pack. Divide the total by that number and you’ll know how many packs you need.

Diapers per delivery rhythm

Diapers per day Every 2 weeks Every 3 weeks Every 4 weeks
6 84 126 168
8 112 168 224
10 140 210 280
12 168 252 336

Which delivery rhythm suits you?

  • Every 2 weeks works if you have little storage space or your little one is growing fast. You keep less at home and switch sizes more easily.
  • Every 3 weeks is a good starting point if you’re not sure yet how quickly you’ll get through them.
  • Every 4 weeks works if you’d rather have fewer boxes at the door and have room for a bigger supply.

Too many left over after a few deliveries? Skip a delivery or choose a longer rhythm. Running out faster? Choose a shorter one. At Lullabum, you change this in your account.

Plan ahead for a new size

Larger sizes often have fewer diapers per pack, so do the sum again when your little one moves up. And avoid stocking up just before a size change: you don’t want to be left with packs that no longer fit. Read how to spot that moment in which diaper size fits your little one.
